Our pets enlarge us in ways that we can't measure. Whichever kind of animal we choose as our companion, sharing our lives with them enables us to see the world through their eyes. Our calendars and schedules are not their concern. Our modesties and vanities are incomprehensible to them. Our bond with them is free of these things, and free to live in the emotional place that we share - a place that is made of uncomplicated love.
I create pet portraits in a variety of media and formats. There is something to fit any budget. Just click on the menu links to find further information.
To create a full color painted portrait, I work in either oil pastel or soft pastel on paper.
Oil pastel is a wax/oil based artist grade crayon that yields a full bodied surface not unlike oil paints, but with it's own unique characteristic. The resulting painting has a look that can be described as contemporary and expressive.
Soft pastel is a pigment/chalk based crayon that yields a lighter surface, again with it's own unique characteristic. The resulting paintings have a somewhat softer look to them than those done in oil pastel.
Whichever pastel crayon I use for your portrait can depend solely on the look you prefer. I am equally comfortable in both mediums.
To create a drawing, I work in several different pencil mediums on paper. Depending on the specific animal subject and size of the portrait, I choose between charcoal and pastel pencils, or watercolor pencils.
All materials I use are high quality, permanent, fade-resistant, acid-free artist materials.
